Schindler Group, a leading global provider of elevators, escalators and related services, said it has been signed up by Riyadh Airports Company (RAC) to set up new escalators at Terminals 1 and 2, as well as the Royal Terminal of King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in Riyadh.
The fit-out project, to be completed by 2022, will see the supply of 74 escalators of the type Schindler 9300, the world’s most popular escalator, said Schindler.
The scope of the project is to provide a reliable, heavy usage escalator system for the airport that helps transport over 28 million passengers per year, it stated.
RAC Commercial Vice President Gelban AlGelban said: “It is important to choose the right partner to achieve a positive business outcome. Keeping this in mind, we are glad to have partnered with Schindler on this project that will propel our expansion plans and the overall functioning of the KKIA to a whole new level.”
RAC is part of Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector privatisation programme. The company manages and operates KKIA in the Saudi capital and is working on upgrading the KKIA infrastructure, expanding with new services and facilities.
Schindler CEO Thomas Oetterli said: “Riyadh Airport is a fantastic addition to Schindler’s growth path in the region. We have assisted the client to address their unique traffic management needs with a tailor-made solution based on our products.
“Safety and reliability are our prime commitments and with our state-of-the-art Schindler 9300 escalators, we look forward to securing a seamless mobility experience to millions of passengers in Riyadh.”
Recently, Schindler announced the supply of vertical mobility solutions for the Makkah’s King Abdul Aziz Road (KAAR), a landmark project centered around the Al Haram Mosque, remarked Oetterli.
