BerryAlloc looks to reinvent parquet

BerryAlloc is launching a completely new oak parquet collection which, with its new Ultimtec technology, is set to reinvent parquet, according to the French manufacturer.

The new collection is an eloquent illustration of the two principles that define its brand: very high quality coupled with state-of-the-art technology, says a spokesman for  BerryAlloc.

“The collection has been entirely rethought, as the fruit of two years of research by the R&D department and various partners (colours and finishes co-created by a team of architects, colourists and designers),” he says.

Thanks to its exclusive Ultimtec technology, BerryAlloc’s new collection succeeds in bringing together the delicate natural beauty of oiled parquet; and the ease of maintenance of a varnished parquet that is effortless to clean, robust and long-lasting, he adds.

Ultimtec varnish contains no solvents or chemical reagents. Besides the elegant decorative result that preserves the depth and nuance of every tint in the wood, Ultimtec offers an attractive matt finish that meets the high requirements of homeowners and decorators; and exceptional resistance to wear and tear and scratching.

Its simplified maintenance and cleaning requirements mean that it is no longer necessary to oil the parquet to preserve its original beauty.

The new collection of 19 parquets options is divided into two ranges: Les Essentiels, offering solid value in floor decoration, and Les Exclusifs, with a selection of deep colours and distinctive characters.

Villa ... bedside table on three legs.

Villa ... bedside table on three legs.

Striking Villa is a three-legged attraction

Okha, a South Africa-based furniture design and interiors company operating internationally, has newly launched a striking bedside table, which moves away from the traditional box shape on four legs.

Villa, as it is called, pairs rich walnut timber with Nougat Matis marble. To create a unique outline, Creative Director Adam Court has moved away from the traditional shape associated with tables and allowed asymmetry and a more organic and intuitive line to establish the form.

“I didn’t want to do a box shape with four legs, and as soon as you change those fundamentals everything opens up,” says Court.

Using three legs allows interplay between body shape and table legs. The table top fluidly moves around and circumnavigates the table legs like water around an obstacle, says a spokesman for Okha.

“The mood of the table draws inspiration from the project it was first created for, South Villa in Cape Town, where curvaceous, sensual forms played an integral part in the style and ambience of the project,” he says.

Drawing on this moody and dramatic setting, Court has used concepts of self-restoration and languid seclusion in the table design. The table has a functional storage space and utilises a sculpted finger grip detail that slides out in an effortless aesthetic resolution.
