Paschal clinches landmark projects

01 January 2021

Contractors in Bahrain are increasingly realising the benefits of using formwork systems from Paschal-Werk G Maier in a variety of applications, right from the construction of footings and retaining walls to columns, walls and slabs, says a senior official of Paschal Concrete Forms, the German manufacturer’s regional office.

These include high-rise buildings, industrial facilities as well as infrastructure projects that are being built throughout the kingdom, says Amir Delghandi, General Director of the Bahrain-based firm.

“Paschal formwork is currently being used in the construction of the first-of-its-kind spent pot lining (SPL) treatment plant in the GCC, which is being built at Aluminium Bahrain (Alba),” he says. “Here, Delta Construction is using our formwork with projections for the construction of 1,360 linear m (LM) of reinforced concrete wall plus footings.  Paschal provided 98 LM of formwork for the project.”

Delta Construction had previously used Paschal systems for the construction of the foundation of Alba’s Rectifier Bay.

Paschal formwork systems are also being used for the construction of two of the most architecturally striking projects that are currently taking shape in the heart of the capital: the 42-storey Onyx at Bahrain Bay and the 27-storey FEB Tower at the entrance of Bahrain Financial Harbour, both of which are being built by Kooheji Contractors.

Kooheji Contractors is utilitising Paschal’s systems for the construction of the columns, shear wall and slabs of Onyx Bahrain Bay, which is being developed by Kooheji Development and the FEB Tower, owned by FEB Aqar, the real estate and property development arm of First Energy Bank (FEB). The contractor has used Paschal’s Modular system as the single-side retaining wall formwork with supporting jack, as well as for water tanks, core walls and columns, while the Paschal Deck system with H20 wooden girder and heavy-duty adjustable props is being used for the slabs. Paschal’s climbing system is also being deployed on the project.

Paschal Concrete Forms also supplied formwork systems to Taitoon Contracting for the construction of the columns, walls and slab of three projects being developed by leading real estate developer Bin Faqeeh Real Estate Investment Company:  the 32-storey Sumo Tower in Seef, the 42-storey Somewhere Residence in Burhama and Layan mixed-used project in Durrat Marina.

Another residential tower which is using Paschal systems for the construction of columns and slabs is the 26-storey twin-tower Diffaf development, which is being built by Fundament for Venture Capital Bank.

Meanwhile, Saleh Abdulla Kameshki is utilising Paschal formwork for the construction of the columns, lift shaft and slabs of the Al Rabeeh Medical Centre, which is taking shape in Manama; and another contractor Santy Excavation & Construction Company is working on a project at the Coast Guard base in Muharraq, where the formwork is helping shape the reinforced concrete wall as well as strip footings.

Among other contractors, Dar Al Khaleej is using Paschal systems for the construction of a seven-storey residential building; and Al Sabah Construction Establishment, which procured Paschal formwork for the construction of an extension of the New Indian School in Sanad, is now using the same formwork for the construction of ground beams and columns of a majlis in Busaiteen.

Paschal’s formwork has also been used for the construction of culverts for an access road to the Lawzi housing project which was built by Eastern Asphalt.

Some of the striking projects that have now reached the finishing stages using Paschal formwork are the 41-storey Burj Kadi in Juffair, where Kadi One Construction used the systems for the columns and core walls; the 12-storey Hanging Gardens in Dilmunia, being built by Ahmed Qaed Construction (retaining walls, columns and lift shaft); and the 20-storey Kazerooni Heights 2 in Amwaj by Kazerooni Contracting (columns, lift shaft and slabs).

Among the projects completed recently with the help of Paschal formwork are the water tanks for  Souq Al Baraha shopping complex at Diyar Al Muharraq, which was built by Almoayyed Contracting,  and a VIP guest house, constructed by Ahmed Mohd Jassim.

Among industrial facilities completed is a readymix plant at Ras Zuwayyed near Alba, where the contractor Al Wardi Construction used Paschal formwork for the construction of the reinforced concrete wall for sand storage bunkers.

Paschal is a sought-after partner for concrete projects worldwide, with customers in more than 40 countries and 50 years of experience.

Paschal Concrete Forms was established in Bahrain in January 1998, and since then Paschal has emerged as a leading supplier of modern formwork solutions to the region’s contractors. Amongst its many systems, its Modular universal formwork and the Paschal deck system for slab formwork have especially proved popular in the region.

Based at BIIP in Hidd, Paschal Concrete Forms has an assembling facility for modular formwork and a stockyard in Bahrain. In addition, with branches in Dubai, and its Scientific and Technical Office in Dammam, Paschal is strongly represented in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.
