Construction of Nakheel’s striking AED1.2-billion ($326.66 million) Palm Tower is now drawing to a close with almost 95 per cent of the work complete on the 52-storey iconic development on the world-famous Palm Jumeirah.
Fit-out works are currently under way on the 240-m hotel and residential tower which soars over the horizon at the centre of the trunk of the award-winning Dubai man-made island.
The Palm Tower, now fully clad, offers sweeping, uninterrupted views of the island, the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai skyline and boasts the “ultimate in high-rise living, leisure and hospitality” with world-class amenities for residents and visitors.
The building comprises 432 luxury, fully-furnished residences, which are due for handover from October this year, and a 290-room St Regis hotel, slated to open this summer. The hotel and residences are topped off by a three-storey rooftop dining and leisure destination which includes The View at the Palm observation deck built at a height of 230 m – which is due to open imminently – as well as the Aura Sky Pool, featuring one of the world’s highest infinity pools, which will open later this year.
According to Nakheel, all components of the landmark development are due to open by October this year.
The tower, which offers a built-up area of 109,808 sq m, has drawn up impressive statistics on its way to gaining its full height: more than 77,600 cu m of concrete, 46,000 sq m of glass, 17,000 tonnes of reinforcement steel and 700 tonnes of structural steel have gone into its construction. At the project site early this year, a total of 988 construction workers were putting the finishing touches to the structure, while at the peak of construction some 4,000 workers were on site.
The consultant on the project is RSP Architects, Planners and Engineers, while the main contractor is Trojan General Contracting.
Aqil Kazim, Chief Commercial Officer at Nakheel, comments: “The Palm Tower is the latest, iconic addition to Palm Jumeirah and our growing list of landmark projects across Dubai. Its unrivalled residential, hospitality and leisure components will further enhance Dubai’s position as a world-class destination for living, leisure and tourism.
“Capturing the attention of investors across the globe, The Palm Tower Residences is one of the most sought-after addresses in the region, offering the ultimate in high-rise living, with a host of amenities within the complex, an onsite Palm Monorail station and Palm Jumeirah’s diverse range of dining and leisure attractions on the doorstep.”
The Palm Tower Residences comprises studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments occupying levels 19 to 47 of the building and offering stunning views of Dubai’s skyline through floor-to-ceiling windows. The St Regis Dubai, The Palm spreads over the first 18 floors of the tower.
Nakheel last month released for sale the last remaining apartments at the Palm Tower, where more than 70 per cent of the residential units have been sold.
The three-storey rooftop dining and leisure destination at the top of the tower accommodates four restaurants, including the internationally-renowned SushiSamba restaurant, and three swimming pools. These include the 775-sq-m rooftop infinity pool perched at a height of 210 m – one of the highest in the world. The pool – which will hold 930,000 litres of water – is on the 50th floor of the Palm Tower and borders all four sides of the building, boasting panoramic views across Palm Jumeirah, the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai skyline, says Nakheel.
Above the pool is a podium housing a speciality restaurant on the 51st level and the public viewing deck on the 52nd storey at a height of 240 m. Designed by Gensler, the observation deck comprises a steel structure with a glass façade.
The Palm Tower, which has three pedestrian access points, is served by 22 elevators. It has its own onsite Palm Monorail station and is directly connected to the adjacent Nakheel Mall, which boasts 350 shops; to the Al Ittihad Park, which hosts some 60 varieties of plants, shrubs and trees; and the island’s diverse range of leisure attractions on the doorstep.
