With its latest update, Geberit is expanding its BIM offering with up-to-date product data for the digital planning of sanitary installations. For many sanitary engineers, plumbers and architects, Building Information Modelling – or BIM, for short – is already the standard when it comes to the digital planning of construction projects. In 2019, Geberit introduced the Geberit BIM Catalogue Plug-in for the Autodesk® Revit® BIM software. Over 5,000 engineering and planning offices worldwide use the tool for planning Geberit products in their projects.
With the BIM plug-in, Geberit provides access to Revit® data (also known as Revit® families) in 35 languages and 41 local product ranges, with this information kept up to date at all times. “The entire Geberit pipe range is available in parametric and easy-to-handle geometries. Additionally, we have also integrated the installation elements from the Duofix, Kombifix and GIS series. In order to enable even wider use, some of these products are also included in the catalogues of well-known planning applications, such as liNear or Trimble Nova,” explains an enthusiastic Werner Trefzer, Head of Technical Documentation & BIM at Geberit.
Geberit also focuses on providing BIM models for ceramic appliances and furniture products in Revit®. These models are an interesting proposition for both sanitary engineers and, in particular, architects and interior designers, as native Revit® data families can now also be imported and planned in the latest version of ArchiCAD. The updated Geberit BIM plug-in with its significantly expanded range of functions has been available to download since April 2021.
Clear numbering
In digital building models, it is important that components can be clearly named and numbered. Only then can the prefabrication of pipe networks already be taken into account in the digital building or MEP model. This is now possible in the latest BIM plug-in, for example when numbering the positions of pipe runs. Thanks to the freely configurable nomenclature, sanitary engineers have full control over the assignment of numbers for individual fittings or pipe sections. Sanitary engineers can thus already define in the model which sections should be prefabricated as components.
Correct measurements
With the new version of the Geberit BIM plug-in, pipe runs can now also be divided up into the deliverable pipe lengths. For example, until now a 25-metre-long pipe run had to be divided up manually as a 25-metre-long pipe section is not available for delivery. Furthermore, the necessary fittings also had to be added manually at the joints. This was a major disadvantage in terms of prefabrication-ready planning and model-based tendering. This problem has been solved cleverly thanks to the section length command in the Geberit BIM plug-in. Sanitary engineers simply enter the length of the pipe as delivered by the supplier and the software divides up the pipe run into the appropriate sections. The software also automatically adds the correct fittings, such as sockets, at the joints. Furthermore, the correct Geberit article numbers can now also be assigned to the system pipes stored in Autodesk® Revit®.
Integrated solution
According to user feedback, the most significant new feature is the amalgamation of all Geberit plug-ins into an integrated solution for Autodesk® Revit®. Available since April 2021, the new Geberit BIM plug-in allows for the planning and calculation of Geberit products in a single application that also offers added functions. The new Geberit BIM plug-in is equipped with different licensed modules – including the BIM catalogue, the Geberit Pluvia module and the installation systems module – plus various assistants for significantly simplifying digital planning with Geberit products. The menu can also be navigated with ease for selecting the language and country in order to access country-specific product ranges.
Searching by article number
The ability to search by article number is also in line with customer wishes. This means that users of the “BIM objects” catalogue module can search for products using the Geberit article numbers. The plug-in searches the entire BIM database and lists the possible matches. The product can then be selected and placed in the model with a simple double-click.
