Abengoa completes solar fields at MBR park

Abengoa, a Spanish multinational company in the green infrastructure, energy and water sectors, has completed the construction of three solar fields of parabolic trough collectors at the world’s largest solar complex in Dubai.
The fields, with a capacity of 200 MW each, were built at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR), located in the Saih Al Dahal area, 50 km south of Dubai.
Some 6,360 parabolic trough collectors have been installed by Abengoa that make up these three plants. It has involved the assembly of more than 160,000 tonnes of structures, even breaking production records, having installed up to 86 collectors per week.
Specifically, Abengoa has been responsible for providing the technology, design, engineering and construction of these three parabolic trough plants for Shanghai Electric Group.
These three plants are part of Phase Four of the MBR Solar Park, where a molten salt central receiver technology plant with a thermal storage capacity of 13.5 hours is also being built.
This latest salt plant, as well as Phase Four of the MBR Solar Park, are being developed by Noor Energy 1, a company owned by Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (Dewa), Acwa Power and Silk Road Fund.
Abengoa is also currently involved in the construction of the world’s largest solar-gas hybrid plant at Waad Al Shamal in Saudi Arabia.
