Work is progressing well on the SR75-billion ($20 billion) Central Jeddah project coming up on a 5.7-million-sq-m area in the Saudi port city with a major participation of locals, said a report.
Work to redevelop Central Jeddah (formerly known as New Jeddah Downtown) is largely being carried out by Saudis, reported Arab News, citing a top official.
“The project has a mix of male and female engineers, with 85 per cent of the company’s staff made up of Saudis, of which 30 per cent are women,” stated Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al Saleem, the CEO of Central Jeddah project.
The project has been designed to turn the area into a cultural and sports tourist destination, he stated. On completion, it will boast major landmarks, such as an opera house, a museum, a sports stadium, and coral farms.
Al Saleem said the Central Jeddah project will also feature a marina, restaurants, beach resorts, over 2,700 hotel rooms and 17,000 homes in the kingdom’s second-largest city. The infrastructure work of the project will pave the way for the local private sector to play a part in the project, he added.
