Spanish infrastructure company Abengoa, along with its consortium partners SepcoIII (Power China) and Sidem (Veolia), has handed over Rabigh 3 desalination plant to Acwa Power following its completion. It is currently the world’s largest reverse osmosis desalination plant in commercial operation, with a capacity of 600,000 cu m per day.






Saudi Arabia is expected to witness strong levels of activity in the construction sector over the year despite mounting concerns around the cost of materials, shortages of labour needed to deliver schemes and the financial options available to developers, according to the latest RICS construction monitor for the final quarter of 2021.






South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Company has secured a 1-trillion-won ($834 million) contract from Saudi-based Tuwaiq Casting & Forging for the construction of a 60,000-tonne-a-year plant in Ras Al Khair  in the Eastern Province of the kingdom.






Work is progressing well on the SR75-billion ($20 billion) Central Jeddah project coming up on a 5.7-million-sq-m area in the Saudi port city with a major participation of locals, said a report.






Chinese solar power plant developer Jinko Power Technology has won a $209-million contract to build, own, and operate a 300 MW solar power plant in Saad, some 85 km east of the Saudi capital Riyadh, reported Yicai Global. The Shanghai-based company’s winning bid equalled about 1.48 US cents per kilowatt hours.






Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) said one of its subsidiaries, Diriyah Development Company (DevCo), has awarded a SR1.






Global infrastructure giant Acciona has announced that its consortium with Spanish group Aqualia and Saudi firms Tawzea and Haaco, has secured the contract from Saudi Arabia for the management, operation and maintenance of the end-to-end water cycle in Asir, Jazan, Baha and Najran for the next seven years.






Mada Gypsum Company (MGC), a leading Saudi-based manufacturer of drywall products, is repositioning itself as a solutions provider and has embarked on a major campaign to create awareness of its ambitions in the market.






Parsons, a US-based engineering, construction and technical and management services firm, said it has been awarded a key contract by Saudi Neom Company to provide project management support in building its ambitious Oxagon – a reimagined industrial city.






The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has reached a long-term agreement with shipping giant Bahri for the construction and operation of an integrated logistics park over a total area of 95,436 sq m leased at the Jeddah Islamic Port. Once built, Bahri will manage operations at the state-of-the-art facility for a duration of 20 years, said Mawani.
