Major firms vie for water pipeline projects

Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has received prequalification bids for three major Independent Water Transmission Pipeline (IWTP) projects in the kingdom with a total transmission capacity of 2.23 million cu m per day. These include the Rayis-Rabigh, the Riyadh-Qassim and the Jubail-Buraydah Independent Water Transmission pipeline projects.

A total of 14 developer/developer consortiums have been prequalified for the Rayis-Rabigh IWTP project that has a total transmission capacity of 900,000 cu m per day, according to SWPC. 

SWPC in an earlier notification said it will be conducting a competitive process to select a developer/developer consortium for the 100-km-long pipeline project which will be implemented on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. As per a deal to be inked with SWPC, the successful bidder will provide the entire transmission capacity to the Saudi utility company under a 35-year water transmission agreement.

Meanwhile, 20 developer/developer consortiums have been prequalified for the Riyadh-Qassim IWTP project, which on completion, will boast a transmission capacity of 685,000 cu m per day and a total of 22 leading utility developers are in the race for the Jubail-Buraydah IWTP, which on completion, will have a 650,000 cu m per day transmission capacity.
