UBM brings products from Down Under

01 April 2014

SAUDI-BASED Universal Building Materials Merchants (UBM) has launched two new product ranges on the Saudi market in conjunction with its Australian partners Curry Equipment and Street & Park Furniture.

These include stainless steel modular service units from Curry Equipment and urban furniture from Street & Park Furniture. The launch was held at the Marriott hotels in Jeddah and Riyadh recently.

Curry Equipment’s flagship modular service units are said to have been developed with meticulous attention to detail and manufactured under stringent quality control in a factory that is ISO compliant.

“We have gained a reputation for delivering high-end equipment that is designed to fit and built to last,” says Alec Curry, managing director of Curry Equipment.

The stainless steel service modular units – for which UBM has been awarded exclusive distributorship – feature several modules for specific functions that can be tailored to customer requirements. Options include clock panels, fire hose and fire extinguisher cabinets, drinking water fountains including those designed with the physically challenged in mind, water coolers with louvred panels, cup dispensers, ash trays, waste bins and message boards. The company continues to develop products to meet specific demands in modular service units.

Curry Equipment is a specialised engineering company, established in 1991, offering design and manufacture of bespoke equipment to client specifications. State-of-the-art laser, CNC (computerised numerical control) and CAD (computer-aided design) technology is utilised in its manufacturing processes.

Typical projects include equipment for packaging, modular service units for airports, universities, conference centres and government departments, conveyor systems and materials handling equipment.

Also launched on the Saudi market was a range of street and park equipment manufactured by Street & Park Furniture.

“Street & Park Furniture was established over 25 years ago. We are passionate about the urban environment and coined the phrase ‘Better cities begin at street level’ in which Street & Park Furniture still believes,” says Cameron Johnston, director of Street & Park Furniture.

Street & Park Furniture, which is active in Australia and New Zealand, has recently tied up with Riyadh-based UBM to cover the Saudi as well as the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar markets.

Street & Park Furniture has won several awards for its products and has worked with many talented designers.

“It is this skill in interpreting the designers’ aesthetic requirement and the demands placed on public realm furniture that sets us apart from other urban furniture suppliers. This then allows us to be viewed as a turnkey supplier for all elements that a project may require,” says Johnston.

“This could include the seats, benches and bollards but also extend to other more specialised areas, for example sentry posts, bus shelters and market stalls. The ability to incorporate the same design language in these elements will enhance the overall impact of the project,” he adds.

In addition to its extensive range of products and its wide expertise, the company also offers a choice of materials. “In recent times, we have used a wide range of materials that include iron, steel, stainless steel, bronze, aluminium, timber, concrete, glass-reinforced concrete, granite and composite timber products,” Johnston says.

He points out that special projects warrant special attention to the unique design elements. “It is in such cases where our expertise can really be seen. On these occasions, we provide the client with design, material and manufacturing information to ensure that delivery is on time and the quality meets all agreed targets,” he says.

He adds that items are drawn in 3D for review by the client and ultimate sign-off before prototypes are produced to ensure the design intent in maintained.

“Thanks to internet-based communication, the design team can be anywhere in the world or at different locations but all looking at the same information simultaneously which also helps manage project budgets,” he points out.

UBM has been a leading supplier of door hardware, specialised architectural hardware, drainage and plumbing products in Saudi Arabia for the past three decades. It is a total solutions provider of door hardware and mechanical products, providing a comprehensive offering, from engineering design to delivery of products and services and manufacturing. The company has branches throughout Saudi Arabia supplying a wide range of specialised building materials from stock and undertakes direct import of materials for specific requirements/projects.
