Liebherr to launch four wheeled models

01 MARCH 2001

Four new Liebherr wheeled excavators featuring key enhancements will make their world debut at next month's bauma exhibition in Germany.

Two are designed for civil engineering while the other two are purpose built for materials handling, says a Liebherr spokesman. They will be part of nine excavators that Liebherr will be putting on show, of its range of 20 wheeled 10 to 113-tonne models.

Elaborating on these excavators, the spokesman continues: ''On show will be the 53 kW (72 hp), 10-tonne A 308 wheeled excavator with all-wheel steering and a new stabiliser support.

''An automatic coupling system - on the quick-change adapter of the A 904 Litronic - patented by Liebherr for rapid grab changeovers will also be demonstrated.

''For work on road or rail, Liebherr will be showing the A 900 ZW Litronic two-way excavator with a telescopic dipper stick and various contruction tools.

''The A 924 HD Litronic has been designed to handle and transport long timber quickly and safely, complying with safety regulations for the transport of timber.

''Finally, making its debut will be the world's largest mobile materials handling excavator, the A 974 B Litronic, rated at 317 kW and weighing 113 tonnes. This giant excavator travels on eight solid rubber-tyred wheels of ample dimensions and has an outreach of 21 m.

Liebherr will also be displaying seven large crawler-tracked excavators at bauma. ''The smallest of these, the R 904 Litronic, weighs 20 tonnes and is powered by a four-cylinder Liebherr diesel engine, the output of which has been raised to 92 kW,'' the spokesman says.

He continues: ''The R 944 VH Litronic hydraulic excavator, with a working height of up to 22 m, has been designed for demolition work . This model will be offered with a hydraulic adjustable-width chassis. Its engine output is 164 kW and operating weight approximately 52 tonnes.

''The 63-tonne R 964 B Litronic excavator has been improved on in many important areas and now has a more powerful 270 kW engine. The working equipment includes a 7-m-long monobloc boom, a 2.6-m dipper arm, a Liebherr quick-change facility operated hydraulically and either a heavy-duty backhoe with a volume of 3.4 cu m or a Liebherr ripper.

''The R 974 B Litronic has also been extensively updated. This 84-tonne machine has a new operator's cab and its engine output has been boosted to 360 kW. The excavator on show will have a 4.6-m-long base boom, a 3.3-m dipper arm and a hinged-flap bucket with a volume of 5.1 cu m.

''For sheer power at the high-end of heavy-duty machinery, Liebherr will show its 414-tonne R 995 Litronic large hydraulic excavator in conjunction with the new TI 272 haul truck, which when in operation can tip the scales at up to 442 tonnes.

''The R 995 Litronic large hydraulic excavator has a power output of 1,600 kW and is an efficient, reliable loader for large haul trucks with a standard grab volume of 23 cu m - even in the most arduous working conditions. Its grabbing force with a backhoe is 1,150 kN, and equipped with the shovel the R 995 can exert a maximum forward thrust force of 1,800 kN.''
