MajeLite clinches major projects

01 December 2001

Majees Lighting Industries (MajeLite), an Oman-based manufacturer of fluorescent and HID (high-intensity discharge) light fittings under the MajeLite brand, reports a highly successful year, having clinched several high-profile projects in the market.

It has also launched a number of new products which have given a considerable boost to its portfolio.

"We have introduced T5 luminaires which conform to CIBSE LO3 Cat2 parameters. This recent addition to the MajeLite family comes complete with factory-fitted electronic ballasts from Vossloh Schwabe of Germany," says Ahmad Nasser, general manager.

He continues: "Within a short span of time, these luminaires have found wide acceptance and have been successfully installed and commissioned in various projects including the Oman Medical College. This range includes 3 by 14, 4 by 14 and 2 by 28 W fittings with louvres and separated by a perforated grille to enhance its aesthetic appeal while providing energy savings."

The company now introduced an additional finish for its MajeLite products. The Maji finish, which is RAL 9016, gives the fixture a rich appearance, he says.

MajeLite has the capability and software to provide lighting design-based solutions for specific projects or requirements, which has given it a competitive edge in the market, according to Nasser.

"A large number of projects bagged this year have been based on lighting designs submitted to and approved by leading consultants," he points out.

MajeLite clinched the entire lighting package for the prestigious Oman Medical College which is being built at Bausher by the Galfar group of Oman. This project uses a wide spectrum of the company's lighting products including the new T5 luminaire, indirect luminaires, downlights with conventional and dimmable control gear, floodlights, streetlights, ceiling lights, continuous recessed double parabolic fitting with dimmable ballast and recessed weatherproof fittings.

Another major project won by MajeLite is the Sharqiyah transmission system project. Eight substations are being set up in the Sharqiyah region as part of this Ministry of Electricity and Water project. MajeLite is supplying the complete design-based lighting package including indoor lighting for the control and switchgear rooms as well as outdoor 1000 W and 400 W floodlights.

Another major triumph for MajeLite was winning the light fittings order for all the sports clubs which are being built throughout Oman by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Cultural affad the entire lighting package for the prestigious Oman Medical College which is being built at Bausher by the Galfar group of Oman.

Another major project won by MajeLite is the Sharqiyah iciency because they are manufactured using of latest machinery and production methods, and raw materials sourced from internationally-renowned manufacturers, which ensures top quality at competitive price," Nasser comments.

The company's successful forays extend beyond the border of the Sultanate and include a number of projects in all the GCC countries. It was also involved in the supply of functional lighting including recessed louvres, downlights and ceiling lights for the five-star Sofitel hotel project in Yemen

"MajeLite goes further than being just a specialist lighting manufacturer - we are fluent in the language of 'light' which is more than just switching a light 'on or off'. It is a much broader vocabulary - one rich enough to express feelings, emotions and sensations," he says. "Besides standard products, MajeLite has the capability to develop customised solutions such as the continuous recessed mounted double parabolic luminaire produced for the Oman Medical College and the special bottom opening recessed fitting for clean room applications."

Looking at 2002 and beyond, Nasser says: "The company has no immediate plans to expand into new product lines and open new offices. We are however, looking at expanding our market share in all our existing and new markets by combining our manufacturing strengths with the local distribution/sales strengths of our representatives or agents.

"The company plans to be more aggressive and market-oriented in 2002 and consolidate on the gains made in 2001 with special emphasis on project sales in all our areas of operation. A special range is being launched specifically targeting the project segment.

"MajeLite now has its sights set on non-GCC markets in Sri Lanka, Africa and the countries of the former Soviet Union.

"Also, the company hopes to gain three major international deals over the next year, for which necessary work is already under way."

The MajeLite range includes basic battens and attachments, surface and recessed luminaries, weatherproof luminaries, bulkheads, downlights and floodlights, high and low bays for industrial applications and sports halls, streetlights and garden lights.

The company enjoys an excellent technical back-up from the world's leading suppliers of lighting components and parts such as Vossloh Schwabe for ballasts, lamp holders and capacitors; Alanod of Germany for high purity aluminium reflectors, Henkel for chemical pre-treatment and Jotun for powder coatings.

Among other developments, Majees has also launched a web site, www.majelite.net, which is now operational.
