Scotch-clad provides long and lasting bond

01 April 2000

For more than 30 years, 3M has been in the business of waterproofing concrete surfaces and its current line of protective coatings is based on this experience.

''3M Scotch-clad systems are moisture-curing, urethane coatings formulated to provide a flexible, seamless, watertight, non-porous film over most treated surfaces,'' says a spokesman for 3M Gulf, which is based in Dubai, UAE. ''Applied as a liquid, it bonds tenaciously to new or restored concrete, masonry and plywood surfaces and bridges cracks. Several types of Scotch-clad systems are available, depending on the surface to be treated. Whether a heavily-trafficked parking deck or a seldom-used balcony, there is a Scotch-clad system to meet the requirement.''

''Scotch-clad systems,'' the spokesman continues, ''are known for their proven performance, with more than 30 years experience behind them. A licensed applicator network ensures quality assurance and they come with a joint guarantee.

''The coatings are easy to apply, reducing the need for highly-skilled labour and special equipment. They are tough and flexible with excellent high tensile and elongation properties. As wear balanced systems, the level of protection can be matched to the severity of exposure.

''Their durability or low wear rate ensures they will last longer, and as they are UV (ultraviolet) stabilised, they can be used on exterior areas or areas exposed to direct sunlight. Finally, Scotch-clad is an aesthetic system, tailored to look good.''

3M says that few companies in the world can match its vast product diversity, its technologies and relentless pursuit of innovation. Established in 1902, the company is a $15 billion global firm that is a world leader in quality and innovation. It has over 75,000 employees worldwide who create, manufacture and sell more than 50,000 products in 200 countries. ''Almost all 3M products are the result of combining 3M's core technologies in a way that solves a customer's problem,'' the spokesman says. ''These technologies and their imaginative application are 3M's unique contribution to customer's lives.''
