Notifier of the US, said to be the world's largest manufacturer of commercial fire alarm systems, recently launched two new products - a fire alarm control panel and a smoke detector - on the market.
The control panel, called the NFS 3030 , is designed for medium to large applications and is the newest addition to the company's new line Onyx series of fire alarm products; while the multi-criteria smoke detector is called the Acclimate Plus, according to Michael Lynch, Notifier's vice president of engineering.
Detailing the features of the panel, he says: "The NFS 3030 is the most advanced panel we have ever designed. It extends the capabilities of the Onyx family to meet the needs of mid- and large-sized facilities. This rounds out the product line making it ideally suited for these facilities.
''The NFS 3030 is modular in design and allows for one to 10 signalling line circuits (SLCs) and up to 3,180 devices. The auto-programming feature enables the system to be operational within minutes. This flexibility is ideal for retrofit and new construction applications of any size.
''The panel's large 640-character, menu-driven display provides critical information concerning type and location of disturbance. Operators can modify the NFS 3030's program online and perform other system maintenance functions such as disabling or enabling a device.
''The NFS 3030 supports Notifier's FlashScan line of intelligent addressable devices, conventional devices through its panel circuits, and preceding generations of Notifier Intelligent devices. A host of other options is available, including single or multi-channel voice evacuation, firefighters' telephone, annunciators, PC-based graphical workstations, networking and system integration, and advanced detection products for challenging environments.''
Moving on to the smoke detector, he continues: "Acclimate Plus is a multi-criteria technology smoke detector with the enhanced capabilities of Notifier's Flash-Scan technology. Acclimate provides an optimum balance of stability and early warning to maximise fire detection while rejecting unwanted nuisance alarms.
"Flash-Scan technology allows Acclimate to respond to a broad range of fires at a faster speed. Flash-Scan protocol groups and scans 10 devices at a time, significantly improving response time. By constantly monitoring its environment for temperature, smoke, electrical noise and air particulate levels, Acclimate can report an alarm within 1 second and turn on all outputs within 2 seconds. Acclimate's dual bi-colour LEDs flash green when normal and steady red on alarm.
"Acclimate's dual-stage drift compensation feature reduces maintenance by notifying the control panel when dust buildup requires attention. Its smoke detection sensitivity increases with heat, eliminating the need to set sensitivity levels at the panel.
''Acclimate analyses feedback from thermal and photoelectric sensor interactions, an onboard microprocessor and advanced software, and automatically adjusts its detection parameters and alarm levels without user intervention.
"Acclimate hosts a variety of unique features: sounder, relay and isolator bases; analogue intelligent design; separate head and base; standard tamper-proof base with age-resistant polymer housing; rotary address switches that are easy to read and set in decimal, eliminating the need for binary charts or detector programmers.
