Putzmeister pumping technology has been used in building some of the Middle East's tallest skyscrapers such as the Emirates Towers in Dubai. A look at the innovations the firm will display at an international equipment show later this year.
01 March 2003
New machines, controls and support systems go on show later this year as German firm Putzmeister is set to unveil what it says are some surprises at the Intermat 2003 show in France.
The company will be displaying, at the May 13 to 17 show, equipment with improved boom reaches, extended working ranges on narrow construction sites, higher payloads for PUMI truck mixer pumps and versatile stationary concrete pumps.
For the five-axle truck-mounted concrete pump class with a permissible overall weight of up to 48 tonnes, Putzmeister says it has increased the maximum reach, and combined all long-reach boom pumps in its programme with position-variable OSS (one side support) narrow supports. In contrast to the rigid, arc-shaped support, the OSS system allows the safer set-up and operation of the machines, even when space is limited, the firm says. Thus, it is possible to swing the placing boom to the side and over the driver's cab for a full 180 degrees working range.
Putzmeister is also increasing the 36 m boom range for its three-axle truck-mixer concrete pumps with 26 tonne permissible weight, as well as in the 20 m class.
PUMI truck mixer pumps
Putzmeister has reduced the unloaded weight of the PUMI truck-mixer concrete pumps while raising its payload. These weight-optimised measures relate to the vehicle, mixer design, the placing boom and the concrete pump.
For PUMIs with 21 m boom, the amount of concrete which can be carried has been increased by 5.5 cu m. For the larger PUMI with 26 m boom, the reach has been extended considerably, according to the company.
The two PUMIs have different concrete pump systems: the smaller one with a very quiet, easy-to-clean rotor and the other with the compact S-transfer tube which, with a high delivery performance, is also equipped with respectable pressure reserves.
EBC control
At Intermat, the placing booms of almost all Putzmeister PUMIs and truck-mounted concrete pumps will be available with EBC control, a quiet radio remote control device which provides precise guidance of the boom tip and end hose.
The placing boom movements that cannot otherwise be avoided during pump operation are levelled out for the most part by ECB control, thereby increasing safety for pump owner, operator and construction site personnel. Also, a truck-mounted concrete pump with EBC can also be operated by stand-in drivers who lack experience.
For construction site personnel, the EBC control with active boom dampening means considerably less risk caused by unintentional end hose movements, and more uniform concrete placing.
Piggy-back pump
The SP11 FMA will be on display at Intermat as another attractive 'piggy-back pump' from Putzmeister. Mixer plant operators will see an additional market opening up with floor-screed and freshly-mixed mortar. The piggy-back pump can also be retrofitted to older truck-mixers.
The SP11 FMA has a pump performance of 15 cu m per hour at 25 bar, and is available both as a firmly-mounted unit on the mixer as well as with a quick-release system. The delivery distance depends mainly on the material, but is up to a maximum of 150 m.
Flexible stationary concrete pumps
Putzmeister will present four stationary concrete pump machines at Intermat. The BSA1407-D is recognised as the classical 'bread and butter concrete pump' on international high-rise engineering and tunnel construction sites and has been designed for a number of delivery tasks. The machine reaches a maximum of 71 cu m per hour at 106 bar pressure on the concrete.
For smaller pumping amounts (54 cu m per hour) and delivery pressures (59 bar), the BSA1005-D is a highly compact pump. The BSA1002-D 'Multi', meanwhile, is a versatile construction site concrete pump for both high rise and vertical conveying and continuous concrete wet spraying. The 'Multi' is supplied either fully equipped ex-works as a shotcrete pump or as a retrofittable 'normal' concrete pump.
The smallest Putzmeister trailer concrete pump on show at Intermat will be the BSA702-D, equipped with hard-chromed delivery cylinders, a pressure-resistant S-transfer tube and infinitely variable pump output adjustment. Along with concrete carrying, the BSA702-D is also suited to pump floor-screed and shotcrete as well as to pressure-point mortar, says the company. Depending on the purpose of the operation, the grain size is restricted to a maximum of 16 mm.
