Ukraine targets Pakistan jobs

Pakistan is studying the purchase of railway construction services worth $815 million from Ukraine, stated a Ukraine official. Pakistan needs to replace 54 per cent of the ties and 57 per cent of the rail in the national network which has 8,831 km of track.
India's first 800 kV line ready
Allahabad: Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company (HDEC), in collaboration with Jyoti Structures Limited (JSL), has completed the construction of an 800 kV single circuit transmission line between Anpara and Unnao in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh at a cost of about Rs500 crore ($116.2 million).
HDEC project manager SH Cho says that the tender for this transmission line, the first in India funded by the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund, was floated to global tenderers in 1994 in two packages. The project is the first 800 kV transmission line in the country.
Dam tunnels under way
Kuala Lumpur: Work on the river diversion tunnels, a key component of the proposed RM5 billion ($1.3 billion) Bakun hydro-electric dam in Sarawak, Malaysia, is expected to be completed by early next year, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Shafie Mohd Salleh said.
The government is considering converting one of the three tunnels, each measuring 1.4 km long and 12 m in diameter, into an underground powerhouse which can generate 500 MW of electricity.
A team from Tenaga Nasional and the Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation is now studying the various options on how best to implement the project.
Kommerling system on show
Primasens, Germany: Kommerling, a leading producer of plastic window systems in Europe, presented its ThermoOffensive series of future-oriented products at the Fensterbau 2000 trade fair in Germany at the end of last month.
This new generation of high-grade thermal insulation window systems is said to be suitable for building of the low-energy and "Passivhaus" types, which uses passive solar energy. Among other products promoted was the EuroFutur, a four-chamber and five-chamber profile system with 70 mm installation depth.
