Cityscape 2003, the Middle East's integrated commercial architecture, property investment and development exhibition and conference will provide a vision of the region's future cities when it opens in Dubai in October.
Organiser IIR says Cityscape 2003 will spark discussion on best architectural practice and new and innovative construction techniques, as well as being a vehicle to educate and develop individuals within the industry.
Both the network-marketing exhibition and conference, that will take place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Dubai from October 18-20, are officially supported by the Dubai Development and Investment Authority (DDIA).
The Cityscape 2003 exhibition will be 40 per cent bigger than last year. According to IIR, 80 per cent of exhibition space has already been booked. Among those exhibiting at Cityscape 2003 will be major international property developers; architects; design specialists; consulting engineers; project managers; lighting and landscape architects; finance and investment companies.
"Cityscape 2003 will enable exhibitors to influence and network with major developers, key organisations and governmental authorities who are involved in the design and construction of major public and private property developments," said Christopher Hudson, event director, IIR.
Awards to recognise and promote excellence in architecture will be presented alongside Cityscape 2003. Top architects working in the Middle East, the Subcontinent, Asia and Africa, are to be honoured with the Architecture+ Cityscape Awards 2003.
"By celebrating the very best in building design, these awards will contribute significantly to the debate about the future development of the built environment," said Hudson. "The awards will act as a catalyst, showcasing architects who develop alternative and creative solutions that improve the quality of the buildings we live, work and play in, for all users."
Instituted by IIR and Architecture+ magazine, the awards will honour leading architects in five categories - Offices, Retail and Commercial; Housing and Residential Developments; Public, Arts and Culture; Preservation and Conservation and Urban Design.
There will also be awards for the year's aspiring architect, chosen from Schools of Architecture students, and a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising outstanding efforts by architects and non-architects in promoting architecture.
A distinguished international jury of judges will assess the entries.
