IR launches small portable compressor

01 October 2003

Ingersoll-Rand (IR) Portable Power has launched the new small 7/20 single-tool portable compressor which provides a free air delivery of 1.9 cu m/min at 7 bar.

The new compressor is described as being particularly suited to road repair, demolition and other standard pressure applications and can be coupled with a comprehensive range of vibration-reduced breaking and demolition tools from IR. The 7/20 has an optimised machine balance to minimise nose weight. Compact in size with an overall weight of less than 450 kg, the 7/20 offers excellent manoeuvrability on site, says a spokesman for Ingersoll Rand.

'The 7/20 differs from many similar performance compressors on the market, offering the added value of a quality pre-treated, zinc phosphate coated steel enclosure with powder-coated paint finish,' he says. 'This robust package ensures excellent resistance to the combined effects of corrosion and abrasion, a prerequisite for work on construction sites.'

The smallest compressor in the successful Platinum Series from Ingersoll-Rand, the 7/20 features a water-cooled engine, specifically designed for this application. Accessibility to internal components such as the engine, has been optimised via a rear-hinged canopy on the compressor for quicker and easier servicing.

The 7/20 is covered by a full Platinum five-year or 10,000 hour powertrain warranty, according the spokesman. 'The latter combines the peace of mind of full parts and labour cover with enhanced resale values through the ability to transfer the warranty from one owner to another,' he says.

Other key technical features of the 7/20 compressor include  a new drip-proof base which greatly reduces fluid spillage. In addition, the working life of the starter motor has been optimised through the use of glow plugs for improved cold weather starting, a start inhibitor and a self-bleeding fuel system, again leading to improved overall machine reliability, he adds.
