The infrastructure summit and expo Constru India 2003 will put on the spotlight on Indian expertise, services and products when it open in Mumbai, India next month.
Constru India 2003 - to be held from November 11to14 at the MMRDA Exhibition Grounds, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Bandra - is the fifth exposition in the series organised by India-Tech Foundation, a public trust and apex industry association, on infrastructure construction, ports, airports, roads and highways. The ministries of civil aviation, railways, shipping, transport and highways and urban development have extended their support for the expo. India's Ministry of External Affairs is extending its support for inviting buying delegations from neighbouring/developing countries.
President of India Tech Foundation Indra Mohan said that the objective of the programme was to place Indian expertise, services and products on the world map, and present the country's state-of-the-art technological innovations. It will also bring the trade/industry and the government on a platform to interact and help remove roadblocks for a speedy development of infrastructure construction sector in the country, he added.
Dr P S Rana, senior executive director, Hudco, will chair the National Advisory Council. B Muthuraman, managing director, Tata Steel is the co-chairman while V Ranganathan, former chief secretary of the Government of Maharashtra is the convenor.
'The Government of India plans to set up a Finance Development Fund for small and medium urban local bodies,' said a spokesman for the organiser.
The construction sector offers ample opportunities for growth, he said.
'The Maharashtra government has taken up 123 projects worth Rs4,100 crores ($904 million) in a privatisation drive and plans to include another 105 projects worth of Rs1,700 crores on the same basis. Maharashtra also has plans for a Rs851-crore Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) for Thane city, and a blueprint for a Rs1,585-crore road project that will connect Worli a residential hub with Nariman Point, the commercial nerve centre of Mumbai,' he explained.
The exhibition offers a platform to interact with decision-makers in the construction sector, the spokesman added.
