New-gen loaders to be launched

01 March 2004

Leading equipment manufacturer Orenstein and Koppel (O&K) is launching the L 25.6 – the first member of a new generation of large wheel loaders – at this month’s bauma.

This new unit in the 2.5 cu m class has been given a new six-cylinder CNH (Case and New Holland) engine.
Direct injection, turbo charger and charge air-cooling combine to ensure better performance as well as clean and economical combustion in line with the Tier 2 standard. The loader’s 180 hp engine at a speed of 2,000 rpm can turn it into an exceptionally fast (37 km/h) and quiet machine, says a spokesman for the German company.
The new Z-bar geometry helps operators to achieve higher output when faced with high tipping loads of up to 11,878 kg with a standard 2.7 cu m bucket. This capacity has been made possible by the resulting shift in the weight of the rear, brought about by locating all cooling units behind the cabin in the cooling box. Besides serving as ballast, the cooling box also allows accessibility to the various elements and enhances serviceability. A vibration damper ensures safety and low material loss especially during fast travel, he says.
Elaborating on the cab, the spokesman says: “The new ergonomic design of the cab gives the driver greater comfort and the ease of operation allows relaxed work. Large windows provide excellent all-round visibility and improve safety and efficiency. The electronic transmission system automatically chooses the right gear for the job at hand – though manual control too is possible, if required. Another important feature is the availability of a three-lever control in addition to the joy stick that does away with any reaching around, and allows the user to concentrate entirely at the task on hand.”
Power transmission comes via a power-shift proportional gear with self-locking differential, thereby ensuring optimal traction.
This product line-up is being extended to include the L 15.6 and the L 20.6 loaders in the 1.5 and 2 cu m class. The L 25.6 is also available with parallel linkage, and all units have an optional quick-coupler system, he says.
CNH is the power behind the leading agricultural and construction equipment brands of the Case and New Holland familities. Supported by more than 12,000 dealers in more than 160 countries, CNH brings together the knowledge and heritage of its brands with the strength and resources of its worldwide commercial, industrial, product support and finance organizations, the spokesman concludes.
