Trelawny plans strong local base

01 April 2004

Trelawny – a UK-based manufacturer of pneumatic and electric surface preparation equipment – has unveiled plans to expand its business operations in the Gulf, following its successful entry into the UAE.

The company – led by a new management – plans to sustain a long-term growth in the market by strengthening its local presence through regularly marketing its products, and scheduling regular visits by the principal.
“We have witnessed a buoyant start in our first year of operations – with incoming sales far exceeding the budgeted figure,” says new co-partner Bill Bailey. “We are delighted, but not surprised, that the changeover has been implemented so smoothly.”
Commenting on the Middle East markets, he comments: “We already have several contacts to follow-up, which emerged from the recent Big 5 Exhibition in Dubai. We will be arranging a number of trips to visit potential clients. We believe we understand the key requirements for the region, and this should prove to be a positive area for growth in the future.”
“We have charted out a long-term strategy that involves identifying key partners in the region and are looking at appointing distribution outlets in each market,” says Bailey.
The company boasts a comprehensive portfolio of products ranging from small hand-held scabbling hammers and needle scalers, through to the larger scarifying floor planers and multi-headed pram scabblers.
“Some of the products offered by Trelawny include:

  • VL303 “Challenger” is a low-vibration needle scaler, which has been ergonomically designed for the comfort of the user. The scaler comes with a rubber grip handle and sleeve on the body protecting the operator from cold surfaces. This, coupled with an outstandingly low vibration level, considerably reduces the risk of HAV (White Finger Syndrome). The scaler finds a host of applications that include rust, paint and concrete laitance removal, resulting in a decorative finish. Beryllium Copper needles are available for increased safety in explosive areas. No specialist tools are required for replacing needles in the field, resulting in less downtime.
  • Reduced-vibration single scaling hammer, with a low vibration level, has a single-piece piston, combined with tungsten carbide-tipped cruciform head, is for reducing concrete and leaving a decorative finish.
  • TFP250 floor planer is a robust, heavy-duty floor-scarifying machine, designed for heavier applications such as reducing concrete, concrete grooving laitance removal or keying ready for resurfacing. The machine cuts up to six mm when reducing concrete.
  • Low-vibration long-reach compactor has been redeveloped and can now be easily converted to a low-vibration pole scabbler, allowing simple but effective twin versatility. The low vibration compactor offers a versatile solution for small area re-instatement and sand ramming.
  • MHS11 multi-headed floor scabbler has been designed in association with senior construction engineers and removes laitance without damaging the substrate. This prevents the ingress of water, which freezes and causes cracking of the substrate.

Optional cruciform heads are available for material reduction and removal.
Says Rob Chapman, commercial director and co-partner for Trelawny: “We are delighted with the current range of Trelawny products. We have listened extensively to customer feedback and responded accordingly through our extensive development programme. Today’s marketplace is very competitive, and our products reflect the needs of the industries we supply”.
“Keeping in mind its commitment to the continuous development of low vibration tools and equipment, Trelawny has proactively developed a number of low vibration products under its ‘Vibro-Lo’ symbol, providing lower vibration alternatives to their core range.
The company also specialises in a range of vacuum systems, which can provide the perfect solution for the nuclear industry, and other hazardous environments.
“Apart from these, some of Trelawny’s conventional products have proven to be hugely popular in the region. Of most notable success are MHS11 (Multi-headed floor scabbler) complete with dust shroud, and the standard long-reach pole scabbler,” he says.
Trelawny is a market leader in the manufacture and supply of a wide range of pneumatic and electric surface preparation equipment, specifically designed for the efficient removal of substances such as paint, rust and coatings and the preparation of concrete and has a network of distributors worldwide, plus a joint venture in Germany.
“With an ever-increasing number of projects planned for the future, we see exciting times ahead in the Middle East region, and look forward to working with prospective clients and distributors,” Chapman concludes.
