Ofis, the furniture, flooring and interior solutions business of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg group, has introduced a new flooring solution in the UAE.
“Designed for random installations, Cubic tiles are based on the concept of bio-mimicry, where the design on each tile creates a randomness of surface pattern when laid out,” says Ajai Dayal of Ofis. “The low-maintenance tiles are easy to install and offer considerable reduction in labour and material costs.”
Around 7,000 sq m of Cubic from Interface has recently been installed by Ofis at the Dubai Civil Aviation Engineering Complex. Interface, the manufacturer of Cubic, is the world’s largest manufacturer of carpet tiles and Ofis is its exclusive distributor in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, says Dayal.
“The tiling industry in the UAE is worth approximately Dh30 million ($8.17 million) and has been growing at a rate of 15 per cent for the last four years, fuelled by the recent construction boom,” says Dayal.
“Today, a major share of the UAE’s flooring industry depends on hard flooring solutions; while only 20 per cent use soft tiling options. With the introduction of this random tiling solution, we expect a marked increase in the use of soft tiling solutions in Dubai,” he says.
As a result, Ofis expects a growth of 30 per cent in its flooring division by the end of 2005. By its very nature, a random flooring solution is more economic than broadloom carpet and scores over conventional carpet tile installations. Cubic tiles can be randomly installed, the tiles will always match, and eliminates the need for stockholding,” says Chris King, regional manager of Interface.
“As international market leaders, we know that Cubic tiles combine both aesthetics as well as hard wearing requirements,” he concludes.
