Hughes Safety Showers – which reported a 500 per cent increase in the value of exports to the Middle East during the first six months of last year compared with the corresponding period of 2003 – is hopeful of improving its presence in the region and emerge as a leader in the supply of decontamination and safety showers.
Last year Hughes Notduschen, the company’s German subsidiary had clinched a deal in Saudi Arabia for the supply of 20 chilled tank showers with integral eye/face wash fountains.
“The deal underlines the importance of being able to meet customers’ precise requirements and the contribution this has made to the growth in business,” says managing director Tony Hughes. “We offer well-proven emergency safety showers that have been modified to cope more effectively with local ambient conditions. In the Middle East, for example, high temperatures can all too often be a serious problem.”
Hughes’ products that are tailored for the Middle East come with the following modification:
• Additional insulation and the use of reflective sunshades on the 1,200-litre storage tank helps to reduce the increase in water temperature during the day;
• A cooling coil in the tank, supplied by an air-cooled condensing unit, provides further temperature control to keep the shower water within safe limits;
• The inclusion of a submersible pump in the tank to mix the water has also proved to be a more reliable solution than an externally-mounted mixing unit normally fitted in a less hostile environment; and
• Alarms that provide immediate warning of an excessive temperature rise or other conditions that would otherwise affect safe operation.
Hughes Safety Showers is Europe’s largest manufacturer of emergency safety showers and eyebaths exporting to more than 140 countries worldwide.The company has been focusing on improving its presence in the export markets.
