Following a strong year in terms of business last year, Saudi Diesel Generators Company (SDGC) is hopeful of continuing its success this year as well.
“Last year was very positive for the company especially with regard to sales activities,” says a company spokesman. “Our order books kept us busy with business pouring in from both the government and the private sector groups including the bigger names such as Saudi Aramco, Saudi Electricity Company and the Sabic group of companies. We also got good export orders from GCC countries and Iraq.”
Alongside the growth in sales, SDGC has also witnessed an increase in its operation and maintenance (O&M) services and the company has also supplied quality spares and services to our customers. In addition, the company's rental business has also fared well in the renting of mainstream gensets and construction equipment to the growing construction industry.
Established in 1978 in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, SDGC is a 100 per cent Saudi-owned, limited liability company and is licensed by the Ministry of Industry and Electricity to manufacture diesel engines and generator sets in the 15 kW to 2000 kW range.
The company designs and manufactures both state-of-the-art as well as customised generators and backs it up with its excellent after-sales service, says the spokesman. “Our manufacturing and service activities are certified for ISO 9001 and we have a quality control team, headed by a quality control manager, who scrupulously monitors the conformance of the company's products to ISO standards.”
From its head office and manufacturing unit located in Al Khobar, SDGC has spread its reach into the near and far reaches of the kingdom through setting up branches in Jubail, Riyadh and Jeddah as well as dealers in Abha, Tabuk, Unayzah catering to the provincial needs of its clientele.
The company has also introduced schemes to retain its local workforce who account for a quarter of the 200-strong workforce. As part of the effort, the locals have been provided with ample training in new trade skills and have also been offered growth opportunities within the company.
SDGC manufactures its diesel generator sets based on a wide range of heavy-duty industrial engines that include MTU, Detroit Diesel, Perkins, Yanmar, Ruston, EMD and Daewoo, so that it meets the requirements of the customer.
Apart from manufacturing generator units with capacities ranging from 15 kW to 2000 kW, SDGC also manufactures diesel driven and electric motor driven pump units to meet FM/UL and NFPA-20 requirements with capacities up to 5000 gallons per minute.
Saudi Diesel Marketing – the trading arm of SDGC – which maintains an elaborate inventory of spare parts valued at over SR20 million, caters to a wide range of products from an impressive list of principals. It is the sole distributor for several of its principals that include: Daewoo Heavy Industries, Korea (excavators, wheel loaders, and fork lift trucks); Daimler Chrysler, Germany (MTU and Detroit diesel engines), Donaldson Europe (gas turbine filtration systems); Neoplan Germany (airport shuttle buses); Rheinmetall Landsysteme, Germany (air start units); and MSB Heavy Industries, Korea (rock breakers).
SDGC offers comprehensive after-sales backup, with service network headquartered in Al Khobar. “Our service operation is tailored to meet the needs of today's diesel world with field service personnel on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is backed up by a large workshop facility, professional management and a sophisticated computer system,” the spokesman concludes.
