Weinig introduces innovative Conturex

01 April 2006

German wood processing equipment manufacturer Weinig has launched what it describes as a unique concept machine that incorporates revolutionary technology for solid wood processing.

The new CNC-controlled Conturex is a forward-looking solution for profiling, milling, shaping and drilling workpieces in one operation, says a spokesman for the company. It aims to provide solutions where traditional systems come up against limiting factors, he adds.
“The Conturex with its new revolutionary technology will fundamentally change production philosophy in the course of the next few years,” says Rainer Hundsdoerfer, chairman of Michael Weinig group.
The two most important features of the new processing technology is the grip-feed table with the PowerGrip clamping function for positioning the work pieces as well as the dual processing at two stations for complete processing of the workpieces.
“The PowerGrip system copies the way the human hand functions, where clamping elements placed in a row on the grip-feed table hold on to the work piece in the exact position required,” the spokesman explains. “This clamping method has many advantages as firstly, no devices are required for fixing and secondly, the anti-skid method employed is free of tensions, significantly increasing the quality and the dimensional accuracy of the end product. Finally, it also caters for different cross-sections of the workpieces and even extremely small parts can be perfectly processed on all six sides.”
The second major innovation in the product design of the Conturex, the dual processing comprises two processing units that enable complete processing, even of complex workpieces.
“Here the two units, equipped with tool-storage magazines, are simultaneously in use, both following the principle based on the division of labour – while one station is processing, the other one is equipped with the required tool and with it prepares for the next processing step,” the spokesman elaborates. “This teamwork reduces non-cutting times to almost zero! Set set-up times are also completely avoided, resulting in a faster pass and high non-stop processing performance.”
The Conturex opens up all sorts of possibilities since almost any imaginable contour can be produced on the one machine by a single operator. The magazine holds up to 80 tools and a variable speed control guarantees the adjustment to any type of wood, he says.
“We have utilised all our know-how and experience as a market leader for machines and systems for solid wood processing, in the Conturex. The result is a solution for complete processing where even one-offs become profitable. Order-related production enables faster reaction to customer requests, shorter delivery times and eliminates the need for customers to keep large stocks,” he says.
At present, the Conturex is available in three models of C1500, C2250 and C3000 for three different processing lengths.
