Panasonic, a leading global manufacturer of business solutions and consumer electronics, has introduced its latest plasma panel display solution that incorporates a slot-in PC tailored to work with high-resolution digital signage and narrowcasting applications.
The new ITX-1213 slot-in PC features special characteristics such as support for portrait and landscape display modes. The powerful display engine offers a flexible solution for digital signage applications in malls, hospitals, banks, exhibition halls, hotels, restaurants, bus stations and educations centres. It is also suitable for the FIDS (flight information display systems) in airports.
The display solution fits within the customisation slots of plasma panels, eliminating the need for a stand-alone PC fixed on a bracket or hidden behind the plasma, as is the practice in conventional digital signage applications. The board draws power from its housing slot, and does not require independent power supply and video-feed cabling.
The PC consumes a maximum 20 W to power its Intel 82855GME/ICH4 chipset, and supports LVDS and CRT interfaces.
The ITX-1213 plugs into all three sizes of Panasonic plasma display – 42-inch, 50-inch and the flagship 65-inch. It houses a 1.2 GHz Intel ULV Pentium M CPU, 512 GB RAM and a 40 GB 2.5-inch HDD. It also hosts two USB ports, a VGA port, a10/100 Base-T LAN port and a PCMCIA slot for wireless LAN or other compatible modules.
The new system’s PC board comes as a latest addition to Panasonic’s range of display solutions that already includes PDP, LCD, LED and projector display setups.
“We are not the number one solution provider in the Middle East now, but we are starting to become the only one solution provider by introducing this slot-in PC plasma,” says Yasuo Yamasaki, deputy general manager, system sales department, Panasonic Marketing Middle East, Dubai.
The ITX-1213 allows for hassle-free implementation of integrated digital signage systems. The iTX-CAST digital signage software, which is fully compatible with the slot-in PC, provides features such as real-time content monitoring, auto reboot and shutdown, auto power on/off, SMS notification, and additional security and scheduling features.
The software was developed to supplement Panasonic’s intelligent Public Display Solution that offers robust client/server architecture to support large-scale deployments of public display contents.
