TRL launches Cerberus portable radar system

01 August 2006

TRL Technology, part of the TRL Electronics group, has launched its Cerberus portable radar and optical surveillance system – a comprehensive, and cost-effective surveillance solution for area and perimeter protection.

“Cerberus’ unique design integrates 360-degree radar detection with day-or-night optical surveillance and a remote-monitoring mapping interface,” says a company spokesman.
Deployable in less than 15 minutes, it represents one of the fastest means of providing advanced perimeter security for personnel operating in remote, high-risk locations.
Cerberus provides 24/7 perimeter protection for personnel and critical infrastructure in exposed and unsecured locations, such as pipelines and communications networks, to give as much warning as possible of an impending terrorist attack. Detecting movement, Cerberus locates people at 2.5 km and vehicles up to 5 km away, while enabling continuous surveillance monitoring from a ruggedised laptop control point, at up to 3 km from the system’s sensors. The system also displays the real-time positions of friendly personnel and vehicles, allowing friend to be distinguished from foe.
Andy Pine, TRL Technology’s director of strategy and business development, says: “We recognise the need to provide high levels of security for personnel working under threat in remote, high-risk areas. Cerberus addresses this challenge by applying TRL Technology’s extensive experience in defence and government security systems, to create a uniquely specified solution. Cerberus’ state-of-the-art radar detection and optical surveillance delivers a significant additional layer of protection to complement Mark-1 eyeball. TRL Technology supplies Cerberus as a ready-to-go, commercially priced, military-grade system, which offers a highly effective and flexible perimeter security solution.”
Cerberus is a rugged trailer-based system, easily towed by an existing fleet vehicle or, alternatively, transported by truck. It can also be integrated into a wide range of vehicles. Cerberus’ flexible, scaleable design enables either standalone deployment, or the networking of multiple units for large perimeter protection and wide-area surveillance. It can be left in action indefinitely, or taken out of action in under 10 minutes, with the system’s flexibility fulfilling a wide range of surveillance and protection roles, to ensure maximum return on investment and system longevity, the spokesman adds.
