Technal Middle East has launched a revolutionary door system – the hi-tech sliding door GT Plus lift-and-slide series – that marks a world “first’, according to the leading Bahrain-based aluminium systems designer.

“We have recently made a technological breakthrough through successfully testing our hi-tech sliding door GT Plus lift-and-slide series for water-tightness at 750 Pa – the first sliding door worldwide to be tested for water-tightness at such high pressures,” claims Hesham Kameshki, marketing and sales manager of the company.
“This heavy-duty sliding door has been enhanced through a complete redesigning process to meet highly stringent project specifications for water-tightness, air permeability and resistance to wind loads that no other existing proprietary system in the market provides,” he says. “The concept of the lift-and-slide mechanism allows the use of EPDM seals in lieu of the weather-pile conventionally used in sliding doors, thus providing high acoustic and air-tightness performance.
“When the sliding panel is lifted by applying a small torque on the operating handle, the contact of the gaskets against the frame is released, thus substantially reducing the friction and making the sliding operation extremely smooth – even with heavy panels weighing up to 250 kg,” Kameshki continues. “This makes it the ideal choice for extra-large patio doors in residential and commercial buildings that are exposed to harsh weather conditions.
“The achieved air permeability rating is Class 4, which is the highest class defined by the European Norms EN 12207. The re-designed reinforced interlocking stiles enhance the stiffness of these sliding doors, which have been tested at a safety wind load pressure of 3,750 Pa, without showing any deterioration in its performance ratings.”
