More than 700 companies from 36 countries took part in the fifth International Trade Exhibition for Construction Technology ‘Project Qatar 2008’ which concluded in Doha last month.
Organised by IFP Qatar at the new Doha Exhibition Centre, the four-day event also witnessed the participation of a record 190 companies from Qatar and more than 15,000 professionals from Qatar and the GCC countries.
The event showcased the latest in construction technology and in the vast range of building materials, equipment, technology, systems and machinery servicing the construction needs of Qatar and the GCC, says a spokesman for the organiser.
The exhibition will seek to cater to the whopping $142 billion capital expenditure that the emirate has earmarked for carrying out various developmental activities, as part of prudently using the windfall from the oil revenues and to ensure diversification.
Apart from Qatar Inc, the other participating companies include those from Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the UAE, the UK and the US.
Among the exhibitors, Qatar Building Company (QBC) said the exhibition had proved to be a big success with over 100 high-profile guests visiting its stand.
Several top businessmen, presidents and managers of Qatari contracting and international companies in Doha checked the latest heavy equipment and technology exhibited by QBC, along with visitors from UAE, Poland and Finland, a company spokesman said.
QBC is the official agent of Hyundai, the leading Korean company in manufacturing heavy equipment.
“We signed many contracts with different Qatari construction companies to sell a large amount of construction and building heavy equipment, especially excavators, wheel loaders and power generators,’ said the spokesman.
