Panasonic launches new air-conditioner

01 May 2008

Panasonic has launched in Bahrain a new air-conditioner designed specifically for the extreme summer temperatures and the sandstorms of the Middle East, as part of a strategy aimed at introducing environment-friendly and highly competitive products to the region.

This first-of-its-kind two-in-one air conditioner plus air purifier has an e-ion air purification system, which provides air purifying capability that is proven to be 10 per cent higher than any other air conditioning unit currently available, and also features a compressor designed to withstand extreme climatic conditions, says a company spokesman.
“Panasonic’s new system is capable of simultaneously cooling and purifying air in a single unit, offering the two-in-one value of an air-conditioner and air-purifier. Sandstorms are a perfect example of some of the extreme conditions faced by this part of the world," says Abby Thomas, product manager of Panasonic Marketing Middle East.
“The e-ion air conditioning system is designed to deal with exactly those conditions. People will benefit from the e-ion technology that will allow them to breathe fresh, uncontaminated air while cooling them at the same time. The air-purifier system can even be used in winter when cooling is not required. This new product offering is totally lead-free as all our other products and is also easy to maintain since it needs just simple vacuuming when there is any dust collection on the filter. Smoke in the air-flow is gradually drawn in and rapidly and powerfully removed, making a room smoke-free within a few minutes,” he points out.
“Discharged e-ions catch dust particles and bring them back to the positively charged filter with a boomerang like mechanism; while cooling is possible even when the outside temperature is 55 deg C. The units feature a highly durable compressor and fan motor to maintain a comfortable room temperate even under the hottest conditions.
“An advanced version of regular negative-ions, e-ions are a unique technology developed by Panasonic that provides both air purification and bacteria inactivation. Three trillion e-ions are released to capture dust where the unique system uses the attractive force between negatively charged dust particles and a positively charged filter to powerfully remove dust and clean the air,” says Thomas.
“As a global player, Panasonic is always looking to design products which cater to the local market. This year’s Panasonic two-in one line up, with its 55 deg C super tropical compressor and a high Energy Efficient Ratio (EER) is an excellent example as it ideally suits Bahrain’s hot summer and dusty atmosphere,” points out Ganesh Mithra, country manager for Al Futtaim Sons (AFS), Panasonic's distributor in Bahrain.
Last year, Panasonic's air conditioner sales in Bahrain increased by 131 per cent, with a total sales increase of 124 per cent across the region giving it a 12 per cent share of the total GCC air conditioning market. The company aims to boost its sales by 200 per cent this year.
