A NEW state-of-the-art aluminium extrusion plant is to be built in Abu Dhabi at a cost of $200 million. The Taweelah Aluminium Extrusion Company will be the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region according to the project’s developers.






ABU DHABI’S Department of Transport (DoT) has started work on a Dh700 million ($190.6 million) road infrastructure project, which will see the construction of new tunnels and roads to accommodate increasing growth in traffic in the emirate.






CATERPILLAR Logistics Services (Cat Logistics), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caterpillar, launched construction work last month on a new regional parts distribution centre in Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza).






A NEW ceramics city being built at a cost of $120 million in Dubai is gearing for its launch later this year. Called the International Ceramic City (ICC), the 400,000-sq-ft trading hub will specialise in providing ceramic building materials when it opens for business in Jebel Ali.






SIEMENS is to build a 400 kV grid station in Abu Dhabi, which will be the first to be totally designed, engineered and built by Siemens in the UAE. This comes on the heels of Siemens Energy winning a contract to build the Shuweihat S3 turnkey combined cycle power plant in Abu Dhabi.






THE UAE’s Ministry of Public Works is currently renovating five interchanges on Emirates Road between Dubai and Ajman at a cost of Dh1 billion ($272 million), according to local press reports.






TOURISM Development and Investment Company (TDIC), the master-developer of tourism, cultural and residential destinations in Abu Dhabi, has appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as an independent auditor to monitor its contractors and subcontractors in the area of worker welfare on Saadiyat.






i-Rise tower ready for occupation REALTY Capital Middle East has confirmed that its centrepiece i-Rise business tower project in Tecom Site C in Dubai is complete and ready to be occupied.






THE Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has invited 18 selected developers to participate in the 1,500 MW Hassyan I independent power project (IPP) following the expression of interest for the project published in March this year. Hassyan 1 will be Dubai’s first ever private power plant.

DANUBE Building Materials has opened its new Dh40 million ($10.8 million) state-of-the-art warehouse in Jafza South. The launch of the new warehouse was led by Jafza’s deputy CEO and chief commercial officer Ibrahim Mohammed Al Janahi, who was also joined by Danube Building Materials chairman Rizwan Sajan and other officials.






EMIRATES Aluminium (Emal) expects to produce at full capacity of 1.5 million tonnes by 2014, according to reports. Phase Two of its smelter in Al Taweelah, which will produce an additional 750,000 tonnes, should be completed by the end of 2013 and start production by 2014, the Gulf News quoted Emal CEO Seed Fadhel Al Mazrooei as saying.
