With barely seven years to go before it takes the centre stage as the host of the 2022 Fifa World Cup, Qatar is going full steam ahead, pouring billions to develop world-class infrastructure –  from stadia to railways and from mega malls to entire cities – to host the  prestigious event.






Projects at a glance






Qatar's Public Works Authority (Ashghal) ambitious Expressway Programme, which comprises a thousand kilometres of roads and hundreds of bridges and interchanges, has seen significant progress over the past year.






Qatar's ambitious rail project has gathered steam with country poised to award a number of important contracts this year for the project, which is seen as a backbone in the country’s developing infrastructure.






Construction is well under way on what is designed to be the largest shopping mall in Qatar spanning 550,000 sq m, which aims to attract a footfall of 20 million customers annually.
