Despite the drop in oil prices, abu dhabi continues to focus on its infrastructure as it pushes ahead with its ambitions to boost the emirate’s tourism potential, says MRIDULA BHATTACHARYA.

As the sprawling arms of the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) get dressed in an aluminium and glass livery of blue and grey, it is clear that the new showpiece terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport (ADIA) is fast becoming an icon on the emirate’s skyline. The distinctive X-shaped building is now clearly visible from more than 1.






Enabling works on Phase One of the first residential development within Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District are due for completion this month (September), with the early works contractor having already excavated more than 105,371 cu m of earth to make way for the project.






Construction work has commenced on the first phase of the $1.5-billion Al Maryah Central, a mixed-use development located on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi.






Formwork systems from Paschal-Werk G Maier continue to enjoy popularity among contractors in the Abu Dhabi market, where a number of leading players are also taking advantage of the German company’s formwork rental services offered through its local branch Paschal Emirates.






RAK Ceramics of the UAE has recorded a 9.5 per cent increase in sales for tiles in its local market, bringing in Dh121.8 million ($33 million) in the second half of 2015, while sanitary ware sales increased by 6.7 per cent to pick up Dh36.4 million ($9.9 million). This represents an overall 9.5 per cent increase in H1 2015 earning the firm Dh242.
