Global technology giants including Alstom, ABB and Siemens are in the race for a $1.6-billion electricity interconnection project being jointly developed by Saudi Arabia and Egypt, said a report.






GE has entered into a contract with National Grid SA to supply four new electricity substations on a turnkey basis and upgrade four others, in the southern region of Saudi Arabia.






Saudi-based Maydan Industry for Industrial Development and Investments Company is joining forces with Ahmad Kassim Al Amoudi Group Company (AKA) and the South Korean technology company SFC to establish a manufacturing plant in PlasChem Park at a cost of SR189 million ($50.3 million).

The station, which has been set up in 26 months, will boost power supply to the industrial city of Madinah.






The Saudi government has launched health projects worth more than SR1.1 billion ($293 million) in Najran. The projects include development of five modern hospitals, two healthcare units, a specialised dental centre and 13 primary health care centres, reported Arab News.






Kone Corporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has won an order to supply 153 elevators for eight different projects commissioned by Alargan Projects in Saudi Arabia.






Saudi Arabia has announced plans for the construction of a massive cultural, sports and entertainment city in Al Qidiya, southwest of Riyadh. The city, which is claimed to be the first of its kind in the world, will cover an area of 334 sq km, including a major safari area, a Saudi Press Agency report said.
