Riyadh Metro

The ambitious Riyadh Metro project – among the largest infrastructure developments under way worldwide – is now more than 75  per cent complete, with work in progress on all six lines of the $22.5-billion project in the Saudi capital.






Work is ongoing on the Riyadh Bus Project, a key carrier for passengers into the city. Saudi ‎Arabian Public Transport Company (Saptco) and France’s Regie Autonome des Transports Parisiens ‎‎(RATP Dev) were awarded the contract to supply, operate and maintain the $4-billion Riyadh Bus Project in November 2014.






The Riyadh Metro project has been a wonderful opportunity to upskill construction capabilities, according to Alwalid A Alekrish, vice-president, projects and programs at the RDA. “The presence of international construction companies has resulted in knowledge transfer, both to Saudis employed on the project and also to local firms.






Saudi Aircon, a member of Abdullatif Al Arfaj and Brothers Holding Company, is working with the BACS Consortium as the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) contractor on two separate contracts at the Riyadh Metro project. The first deal involves work at the 1C1 and 1C2 stations, while the second is for work at the 1C3 and 1C4 stations.






Global Energy, a leading regional heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and electromechanical supplier, is working on several lines of the Riyadh Metro project with full technical support from both Areel Nystrom Middle East and Smoke Control Australia.






USG Middle East (USG Boral ME), based in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, is a main supplier to the prestigious metro project in Riyadh, where as a full system solution provider for high acoustic and fire performance, it has supplied thousands of square metres of wall boards and other substrates along with their metal framing, ceiling partitions, shaft wall s






A wide range of cranes from Terex Cranes are being used on the challenging heavy lifting operations on the Riyadh Metro project by rental companies involved on the prestigious development, according to the leading cranes manufacturer.






Al Kifah Ready-mix and Blocks (KRB) is playing a key role on the Riyadh Metro project by supplying high-performance concrete used on various aspects of the development, right from the piling works to the construction of superstructural elements.
