DUBAI, January 13, 2018

Work is in full swing on the Mohammed bin Rashid Library Project, a modern architectural landmark coming up on a total area of about 66,000 sq m in the Jaddaf area on Dubai Creek, said a report.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Library project is unique and distinguished in terms of size and shape. The biggest library in the Arab World is being designed in the shape of an open book on a Arabic lectern at a cost of Dh1 billion ($272 million), reported state news agency Wam.

The project includes a main building which consists of a basement, ground floor and seven floors containing a central warehouse for books.

It also contains a laboratory for preserving books, collecting and processing materials, and facilities for digital conversion of books, it stated.

The library will be equipped to make it one of the largest electronic libraries in the world. It will also serve as a cultural and scientific movement in the country and a catalyst for reading and scientific research and will support writing books, translation works and publishing, stated the report citing a senior official.

On completion, this project will be added to the emirate's unique and distinct features, remarked Hussain Nasser Lootah, the director-general of Dubai Municipality, after making an inspection visit to the site.

He directed the project team of consultants, contractors and engineers to complete the project within the specified time given the importance of the project and its vitality.
