RM Sotheby’s announces sale of two major supercars
LONDON, January 6, 2024
RM Sotheby’s has announced the upcoming sale of a duo of highly significant supercars, both of which will be offered via Sotheby’s Sealed.
First up is a 2015 Porsche 918 ‘Weissach’ Spyder, finished in a striking red and white ‘Psychedelic Design’ paint job, inspired by Porsche’s iconic ‘hippy’ livery 917s.
A Swiss-delivery example, it is the only Psychedelic Design 918 Spyder built for the European market. A mere trio were built with the remarkable livery, the other two destined for the US market. Collected by the owner from the factory in Zuffenhausen, this example has been seldom driven and has resided in the owner’s collection in Switzerland since delivery.
Boasting less than 800 km from new, this 918 had over €175,000 spent on optional extras, with numerous CXX options, which included PTS Rosso Corsa paintwork and white-painted Weissach magnesium wheels.
This iconic Porsche has also been recently serviced at Porsche Service Center Gstaad on 19 July 2023, with work totalling over CHF12,000. Arguably the finest and most lavishly specified 918 Spyder in existence, this 2015 Porsche 918 ‘Weissach’ Spyder will be open for bidding on the Sotheby’s Sealed platform from January 17 at 5pm GMT to January 19.
Also on offer is a 2004 Maserati MC12. Created following Maserati’s acquisition by Ferrari as the ultimate halo car for the legendary Italian marque, the MC12 boasts lines penned by legendary desginer Frank Stephenson, giving it both a lower drag coefficient and higher downforce than the Ferrari Enzo, along with a targa-style roof allowing for open-air motoring.
One of the earliest MC12s by chassis number, the example on offer was first retained by Maserati when new, where it was believed to have been used for promotional purposes before being sold to its first private owner in June 2006.
With an incredible V-12 similar to that used in the Enzo, the MC12 is an exotic beast posing a rare opportunity for any serious collector of iconic supercar. Ready for its next custodian, the Maserati MC12 will be open for bidding on the Sotheby’s Sealed platform from 31 January, 5 p.m. GMT to 7 February, 5 p.m. GMT.
