New GM for Bangkok's first Hyatt Regency

Bang, January 24, 2018

Sammy Carolus has been appointed general manager of Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit, set to open later this year on vibrant Sukhumvit Road.

In his new role, Carolus returns to Thailand - a place in which he has spent more than half of his 25-year professional career - to lead Bangkok’s first Hyatt Regency branded hotel.

Prior to this appointment, he was the general manager at Grand Hyatt Taipei.

“After an extremely rewarding experience in Taipei, I am excited to be returning to the Land of Smiles,” said Carolus, who first moved to Thailand in 2003 as director of marketing for Hyatt Regency Hua Hin & The Barai. “The new Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit is set to be the jewel in the Hyatt Regency crown and I look forward to welcoming our guests at the grand opening in the summer of 2018.”

Carolus began his career with the Hyatt Group in 1992 as a sales associate at Bali Hyatt in his home country of Indonesia. He later served as associate director of business development and director of business development at Grand Hyatt Bali.

In 2004, Carolus was transferred to Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, where he helped launch several cutting-edge initiatives, including the first residential-style event facility in the Asia-Pacific region and Bangkok’s first residential spa.

Six years later, Carolus returned to Hyatt Regency Hua Hin & The Barai, this time as the general manager and with the coveted Jay A. Pritzker Award for Leadership, which honours associates who have consistently demonstrated their ability as leaders and mentors at top-performing Hyatt hotels.

In 2016, Carolus was appointed general manager of the 853-room Grand Hyatt Taipei, where he oversaw the hotel’s landmark refurbishment as well as the opening of a brand new spa and two restaurants.

“With his in-depth experience of the Thailand market and with his passion for hospitality, Sammy is the ideal choice to manage the first Hyatt Regency branded hotel in Bangkok,” said Willi Martin, area vice president of Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, Southeast Asia.

The 273-room Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit will be the fourth Hyatt hotel in Bangkok, joining sister establishments Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, Park Hyatt Bangkok and Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit. - TradeArabia News Service
