Qatar Airways resumes flights to Abha

The Saudi Air Connectivity Program (ACP), in cooperation with key stakeholders in the aviation sector, welcomed Qatar Airways' expanded presence in Saudi Arabia through the relaunch of services to Abha, the capital city of Aseer Province in the kingdom, a report said.
ACP said Qatar Airways will operate two weekly flights to Abha International Airport, from January 2, 2025. Moreover, the frequency of flights to NEOM will double from two to four weekly flights throughout the winter season, Emirates News Agency, WAM, said.
ACP CEO Majid Khan said: "We are thrilled that World's Best Airline, voted by Skytrax, will commence direct scheduled flights to Saudi Arabia's beautiful Aseer region and the city of Abha and increase frequencies to Neom.
“Tourists will fly with Qatar Airways' large network from 170 destinations globally to Abha and Neom via Doha Hub. This new route supports our tourism strategy to bring Saudi Arabia's untouched tourism potential closer to the World."
Cluster 2 Airports Company CEO Eng Ali Masrahi said partnering with Qatar Airways for direct flights to Abha and Neom, aligns with their goals under the National Aviation Strategy and the ACP and enhances their global network.
Acting CEO of the Aseer Development Authority Hashim Al Dabbagh stated that the region aims to become a year-round global destination focused on tourism.
Al Dabbagh highlighted that the current airport can handle 1.1 million passengers, while the new Abha International Airport will accommodate 13 million annually, boosting tourism in the area.
