CUMMINS Power Generation has recently launched a new series of generators in the range of 175 to 220 kVA that are claimed to offer up to 20 per cent more power in high ambient temperatures compared to previous models.
The new generator models are powered by the latest QSB7 engine, which offers improved noise reduction while being the best in class in relation to performance, due to its higher power density capability, says a spokesman for Cummins.
“This is evidenced by the fact that in high ambient temperature environments, the generator sets are capable of providing in some cases up to 20 per cent more power when compared with previous models,” he says.
The generator sets also boast advanced emission compliance almost two years ahead of the scheduled regulatory requirements, which come into force from 2011 to 2017, the spokesman adds.
In addition, the compact format – thanks of the reduced size of the engine and optimised arrangement – of the QSB7 series generators is expected to appeal to applications where space is a key consideration.
“Further benefits in relation to the open, enclosed and rental units – previously only witnessed in the higher kVA ranges – include a new PowerCommand 3.3/ motorised circuit breaker option, ideal for sensitive environments where synchronising with other generators or the mains is required to ensure an immediate seamless and consistent flow of power. All units feature PowerCommand 1.2 control as standard,” he says.
The compact design also allows improved access to the generator sets, whilst the patented recessed two-point lifting feature on the enclosed application provides a further ease of handling advantage.
Commenting on the new range of eight QSB7 platform-based generators, John Dorman, general manager, Cummins Power Generation Middle East and Africa, says: “This launch demonstrates Cummins Power Generation’s commitment to leading the market in relation to the development of generators, which boast optimum performance coupled with advantageous convenience benefits, whilst also setting the standard in terms of emissions and low noise compliance.
“The fact that the new QSB7 generators fulfill the EU NRMM (Non-road Mobile Machinery, such as rental) regulations’ emissions requirements a whole two years ahead of schedule provides a perfect example of the company’s continued support of this important industry issue.”
The open genset features include a compact and robust design for the base frame with manual, automatic and paralleling options. It comes with a high base tank capacity, which is 470 litres on the standard skid or 980 litres on the containment skid.
The enclosed sets feature a two-point lift – which is lowered for easier access. The compact product allows six units in a shipping container (twice as many units as could previously be fitted into a 40 ft container). It also allows control panel viewing with lockable access door. The rental units have a noise-compliant enclosure, heavy-duty base frame, 25-hour fuel tank capability; a spark arrestor feature integrated within the silencer to enable the unit to be used in sensitive locations where sparks could represent a threat to safety, such as oil drilling and refining locations.
To support its equipment, Cummins has a wide and capable customer service network, with 550 distributor locations and 5,000 dealer locations.
“All locations undergo a stringent and rigorous certification process to ensure that client satisfaction remains the top priority for any supplier,” he adds.
Cummins Power Generation, a subsidiary of Cummins Incorporation, has an extensive product range, which include alternators, generator-drive engines and pre-integrated power systems, combining generator sets and power control and transfer technologies.
