Causeway launch at bridges expo
THE Bridges Middle East 2009, considered the region’s only conference dedicated specifically to addressing the current challenges faced in creating iconic and mega bridge projects, will be host to the exclusive launch of the Qatar-Bahrain Causeway project.
To be held at the Beach Rotana hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from November 22 to 25, the event will focus on the designing, building and maintaining of next generation bridges.
Fiona Barron, conference director for Bridges Middles East 2009, says: “We are delighted to have the support and involvement of the Qatar-Bahrain Causeway management. This will no doubt be a major highlight of the event and serve as a platform for industry leaders to discuss one of the world's most ambitious bridge projects.”
The conference will act as a major platform for bridge professionals from all over the world to engage in a variety of discussions on the latest innovations, developments and specification in regional bridge projects.
DC key to meeting rising demand
DISTRICT cooling (DC) is said to be a solution to reducing strains on the environment and economy, as demand for air-conditioning grows steadily in the Middle East – and this will be the focus of the first Middle East DC Summit in Doha, Qatar, from November 3 to 4.
“There is an ongoing structural change in energy consumption and supply. Rising cooling demands during summer amplify summer electricity peaks with networks reaching capacity. With continuing growth and maintaining reliance on traditional cooling technologies, a substantial expansion of electricity supply will be required. This will put additional strains not only on the environment and climate, but also on the economy,” say event organisers Fleming Gulf, which is part of the Jacob Fleming Group.
Polyurethane sustainability in focus
MORE than two dozen technical papers addressing the versatility of polyurethane materials for solving sustainability, insulation and overall performance challenges in the construction industry will be featured at the Polyurethanes 2009 Technical Conference from October 5 to 7 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Centre, just outside Washington, DC.
Sponsored by the Centre for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council (ACC), this conference includes three dedicated construction technical sessions, and several more with papers of vital interest to construction industry decision-makers.
In all, the conference will feature 16 technical sessions and more than 80 technical papers as well as numerous poster presentations, educational seminars and the annual Polyurethane Innovation Awards.
