Indonesian exporters highlight success
01 June 2010
INDONESIAN companies were enthusiastic about the results of their participation in the gulfINTERIORS exhibition, held alongside gulfBID in Bahrain last month. Following the show, all exhibitors under the umbrella of an Indonesian pavilion reported confidence in the strong business potential of Bahrain and Middle East market.
The Indonesian pavilion was organised and represented by Indonesia’s National Agency for Export Development (Nafed) headed by TA Januar Ilhamzah Silang, who is spearheading market development in Africa and the Middle East. “All our Indonesian exhibitors are coming to the Middle East for the first time and are very pleased with the results not only in the terms of the visitor numbers but also the opportunities presented by the Middle East through Bahrain. The quality of visitors and range of contractors looking to win business from our exhibitors was impressive and many secured significant business during the show and made excellent relations,” says Silang.
The exhibitors included seven leading companies – Kharisma Doors, Charismatama Craftindo, Denny Furnitama Mandiri, Sun Alliance, Epoxyndo Art Lestari, Keramika Indonesia Assosiasi and Graha Aditia – which provide specialist indoor and outdoor furniture, doors, epoxy coatings and flooring applications and ceramic products, among other products.
Kharisma Doors used its first promotional platform in the Middle East to exhibit its quality range of doors. According to company representative Ali Suwano, Kharisma Doors has a specialist staff of 60 people in Jakarta producing a wide range of doors in wood such as Miranti Sharea and Al Basia Cata. Quality and dimensional accuracy is the hallmark of this product range, which is cured and dried one month before lamination takes place and is typically used in residential housing, villas as well as offices.
Suwano was pleased with the results of his first visit to Bahrain and received many enquiries from contractors, developers and distributors looking for agency rights.
Charismatama Craftindo is a specialist in wrought iron, teakwood and rattan furniture employing 100 people in Surabaya, Indonesia. According to president and director Andi Soendoro, the company received positive response at the show and good quality enquiries from contractors, with many looking for a combination of the distinctive designs of wrought iron and teak available from the company.
PT Denny Furnitama Mandiri, which has three production facilities in Indonesia, has established a reputation for quality and price for its range of teak garden chairs, primarily designed for outdoor use or in conservatories or resorts. The company is looking for distributors and agents across the Middle East. Company spokesman Raymon Chandra says the expo has lived up to his expectations and has generated strong enquiries from Bahraini and Saudi visitors. Chandra believes there is huge potential in the Middle East for quality high-end teak garden furniture products.
Another garden furniture manufacturer and exporter Sun Alliance is based in central Java and also has an office in Vietnam. Combining teak, stainless steel, wrought iron and aluminium garden furniture, the company offers a range of products that is said to be perfect for procurement by contractors looking for outdoor furniture for hotels, resorts and individual residences and villas. Strong interest was shown by a local superstore in Bahrain, says Maria Murliantini, who was representing the company at the show.
Epoxyndo Art Lestari provides a range of epoxy pipe coatings, flooring applications, injection concrete and anti-fouling coatings. According to Arief Nurmansyah, director of marketing, company’s range of epoxy coatings and specialist applications attracts strong interest from the region because of its high quality.
“A lot of epoxy coatings are used for repair in a number of applications from concrete to pipe systems not only in Bahrain but across the Middle East. We are looking at Saudi Arabia and Qatar and I will be returning in June to secure distribution agreements for our products,” says Nurmansyah.
Epoxyndo is supported by a strong technical and research development unit in Indonesia and is keen to attract significant business across the Middle East from the construction and oil and gas sectors.
Keramika Indonesia Assosiasi, a long-established ceramic manufacturer in Indonesia, operates three key manufacturing facilities across Indonesia, in East Java, East Sarawak and West Timor.
“We are highly competitive against Spanish and Chinese ceramics and, given our quality and range of designs, we are confident of securing good business across the Middle East,” says Rudolf A Ghazali, a company official. “We have received a good response from contractors and suppliers attending the expo and we are now actively looking at wholesale agreements and are very optimistic about business development in the Gulf.”
Graha Aditia provides indoor and outdoor furniture including quality and cost-competitive outdoor rattan and wicker and specialist flooring. Managing director Eva Safaatun was at the show with many of the products produced to her own designs that can be used in gardens, resort hotels and private villas. A number of contractors and property developers expressed strong interest in the company’s distinctive products which are of high quality and well priced, she says.
