TRUCK and diesel engine manufacturer Navistar is eyeing major growth opportunities in the region, where it has been selling its trucks for more than 50 years.
In line with this strategy, Navistar recently introduced its new state-of-the-art engines to the Middle Eastern market at the Middle East Power and Electricity show held in Dubai, UAE last month.
The MaxxForce line of engines include a wide range of gensets that offer three-, four-, and six-cylinder diesels rated from 31 kVA up to 220 kVA standby power at 50 Hz, and from 40 kVA up to 260 kVA at 60 Hz.
MaxxForce engines meet customer needs for fuel-efficiency, reliability and durability, says Dave LaPalomento, vice-president and general manager of Navistar Global Engine.
“Back-up power needs of business, developing countries and communities confronted with natural disasters require reliability and capability. That is what MaxxForce engines provide for the stationary power industry. MaxxForce engines and the engineers behind those products will generate a new experience for customers,” he says. “We are committed to the Middle East market and are confident in our growth opportunities in the region. We are making investments in the people, products and communities in which we operate because we see the Middle East as a strategic growth area for Navistar for the long term.”
With global employee strength of 15,800 people, Navistar, a diesel engine supplier to the power-generation industry for decades, has nearly a century of history designing and manufacturing diesel engines. Its MaxxForce brand has won customers in a wide variety of markets worldwide.
“With manufacturing facilities in North America, South America, and Asia and distribution points worldwide, Navistar Engine Group has the capability to provide the most strategic and innovative technology solutions to customers, no matter where they are. Our manufacturing expertise is renowned worldwide. We build MaxxForce brand engines serving a vast array of customers for on and off-highway applications across the globe,” adds LaPalomento.
Commenting on the business and market he says: “We are recovering from the economic downturn. We are witnessing some strength in the industry, particularly in the Middle East. With markets stabilising and we are seeing new opportunities, particularly in some African countries.
“We have good expectations this year from the regional markets and we expect growth. We have introduced these new engines to the market. We are also looking at new distribution points so that we are able to support our customers. Currently most of our business is from trucks. We are going to leverage this experience for genset business.”
A market leader in the genset line of business for more than 40 years in the US, Navistar views the Middle East, Africa and Asia as growth areas where it can leverage the products it has developed.
The manufacturer, with roots going back 180 years, ranked 204 in the 2011 list of US Fortune 500 companies.
