UAE plans world’s biggest gate

01 October 2012

THE UAE is planning to add to its building repertoire yet another record-breaking project – the world’s biggest gate in its capital Abu Dhabi.

Home to the world’s tallest tower and the highest residential building, it is planning to construct a 25-m-tall gate whose record parameters have been approved by Guinness World Records, according to the National newspaper.

The project, which will be launched on December 2, will feature a printed encyclopaedia and a specially commissioned operetta.

The gate, which will be dedicated to the country’s President, Sheikh Khalifa, is part of Sultan Bin Zayed’s Culture and Media Centre’s “The Khalifa in World Languages” project.

Habib Al Sayegh, director general of the centre, said the gate would carry the name of Sheikh Khalifa printed in all the languages of the world.

The encyclopaedia will bear the flags of all the countries in the world and more than 250 translations of the Sheikh Khalifa’s name; and a biography of the president in many languages along with a history of the UAE will be published on the gate’s website. The operetta will be organised by the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs, and will be performed by members of the community.
