SOME of the building and construction sector’s most innovative companies gathered in Doha, Qatar, last month (May 6 to 9) to take a look back at 10 years of Project Qatar, the international trade exhibition for construction technology, building materials, equipment and environmental technology for Qatar.
The show, which attracts global players and trade missions every year to Qatar to sample the latest advancements in construction technology and building materials, was attended by government officials, ambassadors, trade ministers, companies and project managers from around the world.
According to local newspapers, more than 45,000 people visited Project Qatar 2013 during its four-day run.
Held at Doha Exhibition Centre, Project Qatar introduced two new events this year – Facility Management Qatar, a knowledge-sharing platform for the GCC’s lucrative facility management industry; and Man and Architecture, which featured some of the most prominent architects in the world and hosted high-level discussions on local architectural projects, challenges, and
best practices.
Additionally, it delivered several back-by-demand concurrent events, including Heavy Max 2013, the international exhibition for innovative heavy machinery; Qatar Stone-Tech 2013 featuring a comprehensive range of stone technologies, equipment and products; and Energy Qatar 2013, a comprehensive energy exhibition.
Among international exhibitors, Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology presented 72 German companies – the third largest national pavilion at the show this year.
More than 45 French companies participated at the event.
A highlight of the event was loyalty awards to several key local, regional and international businesses that brought home awards for years of consecutive attendance at Project Qatar – 72 companies received awards in the categories of 10, nine, eight, seven, and six years of loyalty to Project Qatar.
Key local exhibitors included platinum sponsors UrbaCon General Contracting (UCC) and Stadia Sports and Leisure Solutions. Key regional and international exhibitors included gold sponsors Emirates Steel and Malaysia External Trade Development (Matrade). Al Sraiya Holding Group was the integrity sponsor this year, and the official contractor was Boom Construction.
