Ghantoot wins Oman contract

01 January 2015

UAE-BASED Ghantoot Transport and General Contracting has won a major road contract in Oman, said a report.

The contract is the first part of Adam-Thumrait road dualisation project, which involves upgrading of the existing single carriageway into a four-lane dual carriageway, reported the Times of Oman.

The second part of the project has been awarded to Consolidated Contractors Company, it added. The bid amount for the first part was RO110 million ($285 million), while the second part will cost RO91.04 million ($236 million).

Each segment of the dualisation project is 120 km and will take three-and-a-half years, which excludes two months for mobilisation, stated the report citing a source.

The 715-km carriageway between the towns of Adam and Thumrait has been divided into different segments and the first two parts that have been awarded have a combined length of 240 km.

The remaining 475 km is divided into four packages for tendering at a later stage.

Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications has also awarded the Barka-Nakhal dual carriageway project for RO64.96 million ($168 million), the report added.
