Berger marks milestone, boosts green credentials

01 September 2016

Berger Paints Bahrain has renewed its commitment to the kingdom with the introduction of innovative products and a calibrated strategy focusing on customer centricity.

The company also this year completes 35 years of manufacturing and sales operations in Bahrain.

Originally founded in 1981 as Bahrain Paints Factory, the company became Berger Paints when it took on the local franchise from the UK paint giant, whose history dates back to 1760.

“What started out in a small shed with a few machines and a handful of staff, Berger has today grown to become the kingdom’s leading paint manufacturer with a state-of-the-art facility in Sitra offering a full range of paints and coatings to suit every surface,” says the company spokesman.

Berger Paints Bahrain offers a wide range of decorative, industrial and floor coatings. “Be it a simple, single-tone coat or a plethora of designs, we have always been at the forefront of technology introducing many world-class products across the market,” he says.

The company plans to connect better with its consumers and maintain its core value of customer centricity – something that can be defined as an integral part of the company culture.

The spokesman says: “We are working towards enhancing the paint purchase experience for our customers and towards establishing stores that offer a true Berger experience. Two of these are operational in Riffa (Seven Arts) and Hamad Town (Al Ayam).”

Berger operates through an authorised dealer network in all prime locations across the island. It has been the paint and coatings manufacturer of choice for major developments such as King Hamad University Hospital, Art Rotana, Seef Mall, ibis hotel and New Millennium School. The company is also a regular paint supplier to Bahrain’s Ministry of Housing projects.

Berger has its own research and development division, which is dedicated to creating paints for the local market taking into account the harsh climate. Over the years it has produced some ground-breaking innovations, the most recent of which are Weathercoat Ultra exterior paint, which comes with a 10-year performance promise; and Royale Luxury Emulsions (matt and silk), high-end interior paints with low VOC (volatile organic compound), high washability and brighter and longer lasting colours for beautiful interiors.

The company’s commitment to the community is seen strongly in its pursuit of green policies, says the spokesman.

“All paints have been lead free for the past few years and the manufacturing process is also now ammonia free.”

He adds: “This a step towards health and safety. We decided not to use ammonia because of the harmful effects on people working with it. Our technical labs have come up with another raw material which is equally good. It costs more, but we would rather look after the safety of our employees.”

Also as part of its go-green initiative, Berger Paints has undertaken a project for environmentally sensitive disposal of paints and raw materials and has planted numerous trees and plants in the factory grounds.

In conclusion, Amit Bose, the general manager of Berger Paints, says: “We thank the people of Bahrain and our business partners for supporting us in the last 35 years. We at Berger Paints Bahrain look forward to support from the people to become an integral part of their home decor.”
