Work on the KD169-million ($560 million) Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Causeway project – known as the Doha Spur – in Kuwait is 34 per cent complete, a top official said last month.
The Kuwait Times quoted Ministry of Public Works’ (MPW) assistant undersecretary for the road engineering Ahmad Al Hassan as saying the work “would be completed in 1,462 days”.
The project links Doha from near the Entertainment City all the way to Shuwaikh till the start of Ghazali Bridge, and will reduce traffic jams and complete the road network in the country.
The 12.4-km Doha Spur includes a sea bridge that starts from Shuwaikh port and the free trade zone, goes through Kuwait Bay to the west, passes beside Um Al Namel islands to Doha, and then links with the Doha Expressway.
The 7-km sea bridge with two intersections has the same specifications of the main bridge, the Subiya Spur.
