Aluminium Bahrain’s (Alba) Power Distribution System (PDS) project recently achieved its first major milestone with the energisation of the new 33-kV Switch House 7 (SH7).
To mark this occasion, a high-level delegation comprising Dietmar Siersdorfer, chief executive officer of Siemens Middle East and Siemens UAE, and Manuel Kuehn, senior vice-president Business Development. visited the Alba PDS site. Alba’s deputy chief executive officer Ali Al Baqali, chief power officer Amin Sultan and director power and utilities Steve Davison welcomed the delegation.
Al Baqali said: “We are pleased with this achievement as this energisation marks the first phase of integration of Power Station 5 transmission system and we look forward to achieve the energisation of new Switch House 9 as per schedule.”
Siemens, PDS contractor, is responsible to design, engineer, procure, construct and commission high-voltage electrical network comprising distribution switchgears and transformers to expand Alba’s electrical network as well as provide two new gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), SH7 and SH9, additional high voltage equipment and modifications to six existing substations.
The new PDS will link Alba’s Power Station 5 (PS 5) to the upcoming Potline 6.
