The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) will build a QR100-million ($27 million) substation to cater to the power requirements of Qatar Rail’s Doha Metro Project, a media report said.
The power station at Al Waab City is part of the 12th phase of the electricity transmission network expansion project in the country, reported the Gulf Times. Work on the station started 30 months ago, it said.
Two other stations at Lusail and Ras Abu Fontas have already been commissioned and works are in full swing in Al Bidda and Western Doha, Kahramaa president Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari was quoted as saying in the report.
Al Bidda station includes car-parking areas and is expected to be functional in the second half of 2019.
“Doha Metro stations have been prioritised in awarding projects and the highest technological requirements are in place at the stations to ensure uninterrupted supply of power for the operations of the metro,” Al Kuwari said.
Al Kuwari also noted that Kahramaa was able to achieve a major milestone of 1,860,000 accident-free hours on the work site at Al Waab before the commissioning of the project.
